Crisp, structured, and delicately nutty, the High Protein Crispy Baked Sesame Tofu offers a contemporary approach to texture driven dining. Baked rather than fried, each cube achieves a golden exterior while maintaining a soft, airy center, finished with a light sesame glaze for depth and aroma. Tofu delivers complete plant protein essential for muscle repair and cellular function, while sesame seeds provide calcium and lignans associated with bone support and hormonal balance. The preparation minimizes excess oils while preserving richness, resulting in a dish that feels clean yet satisfying. Easy to enjoy on its own or paired with other dishes, it is a clean and flavorful option you will crave again and again.

Ingredients

  • 450 grams tokwa (extra firm tofu)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons water, divided

Directions

  1. 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. 2
Drain the tofu and pat it dry thoroughly with a clean towel.*
  3. 3
Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large bowl. Toss with soy sauce to coat.
  4. 4
Add the cornstarch and breadcrumbs, tossing until each piece is evenly coated.
  5. 5
Arrange the tofu on a parchment-lined baking tray and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  6. 6
While the tofu bakes, start preparing the sauce during the last 10 minutes.
  7. 7
Mince the garlic and sauté it in 1 tablespoon of oil in a small pan for 2–3 minutes, until lightly golden.
  8. 8
Stir in the soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons of water, and sesame oil.
  9. 9
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cornstarch with the remaining 2 tablespoons of water, then add it to the pan.
  10. 10
Cook over low heat for 3–5 minutes, stirring, until the sauce thickens and begins to bubble.
  11. 11
Once the tofu is done, toss it with the sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired, and serve over rice with steamed broccoli, or enjoy on its own.
